Kemi Nekvapil, a long time friend of Holistic Silk founder Joanna Weakley, coach, speaker and author regularly shares her inspiring Blogs in our Retreat section. An all-round inspiration to all who meet her, this month Kemi responds to our Life Tonic Questions…
Q: How do you start your day?
A: I start with day with meditation, then journaling and finally the 5 Tibetan rites (which Joanna introduced me to nearly 20 years ago!)
Q: What gets you going? (exercise/ wellbeing routine)
A: I am someone that loves to move my body often, it is a hobby for me. I train 6 days a week for endurance running events and this involves running obviously, but also strength training and yoga to balance it all out.
Q: Where you are most inspired?
A: In my work. In Nature. In my home. In the pages of Country Style magazine.
Q: You are a successful business woman now, but what advice would you give your younger self?
A: Remember that creating a business you are proud of is about bringing exceptional value to your clients while making a profit. Know your worth and add tax.
Q: What cause are you currently championing?
A: My husband and I have been global investors for The Hunger Project (THP) for the last 5 years, I also allocate 10 days a year to facilitate leadership programs in Africa for THP Australia. We also decided to fund a woman’s program at an orphanage in India this year and we will be visiting the women, with our teenage children this December. The Australian Indigenous Mentoring Experience (AIME) also has my heart, and I am a guest mentor for them, I basically do whatever they ask me to do, I have a deep admiration for the vision of the CEO Jack Manning Bancroft.
Q: How do you relax and switch off?
A: I take relaxation very seriously, I plan the ‘exhales’ in my life. I have things I love to do such as writing letters, running, yoga, gardening, starting at trees rustling in the wind listening to the music of Olafur Arnalds, I am loving his album The Chopin Project.
Q: What’s your guilty pleasure?
A: None of my pleasures are guilty; I either enjoy what I am doing or I don’t do it.
Q: You have to choose only one beauty product to use for the next 7 days, what would you pick?
A: Hands down green juice. Greens of any sort really. I am obsessed with broccoli right now.
Q: Do you sleep well, what is your bedtime routine?
A: My phone is off at 8pm. I read non-fiction before bed because it inspires me so much, it makes me go to bed thinking about what is possible in the world.
Q: And the final question… your favourite Holistic Silk item and why?
A: 100% the Eye Mask. I travel for work and it is great for sleeping on flights. I always have someone ask me where I got it from, they are such beautiful pieces. I also love a day nap so I have one in my bedroom and, one permanently in my travel bag.
