Life Tonic
Kicking off our new monthly Q&A with inspiring women, Holistic Silk founder Joanna Weakley talks us through her day.
Q. What can’t you start your day without?
A. A glass of hot water with a slice of lemon to kick start my system.
Q. Breakfast is?
A. Essential! I start my day with raw oats, toasted seeds and fresh fruit with coconut milk or yoghurt. Not forgetting my vitamins which I feel are a must in the modern hectic world. I definitely feel the benefit of my supplements.
Q. What beauty product can you not live without?
A. Apart from my Holistic Silk Eye Mask and Anti Ageing Silk Pillowcase of course, I adore Neal’s Yard Frankincense Hydrating Facial Mist and Bio Retinoid Anti-Wrinkle Concentrate Oil from REN.
Q. What gets you going every day?
A. A brisk morning walk on the cliffs before coming to the office or an hour of swimming lengths at the pool – this gives me the opportunity to mentally plan my day.
Q. Where you are most inspired?
A. When immersed in the throng and visiting cafes and art galleries. As much as I love living in the country when I visit the city my inspiration soars. Travelling and listening to current music also inspires me, I think it’s the vibrancy of coming across new ways of expression that does it for me.
Q. What cause are you currently championing?
A. Teenage Mental Health. The pressures these young people face in our very fast changing world are immense. Something we should all be more aware of and recognising the support that is needed.
Q. Where is your happy place?
A. At home. It’s here that I get to spend time eating, chatting with good friends and family. I love sharing these moments with the important people in my life.
Q. How do you relax and switch off?
A. Cooking is very relaxing for me and I love reading the paper in front of the log burner. Taking time out for some mindfulness meditation, even ten minutes, really helps to relax me after a long day in the office.
Q. Book or Boxset?
A. Currently I’m reading Kung Fu Meditations, it’s not as far out as it sounds! Recently I watched “Black Mirror” which really shook me so I’m giving it a while before starting another boxset.
Q. Your bedtime routine?
A. Firstly, no gadgets in the bedroom! For as long as I can remember I have drunk Camomile tea before bed. I always sleep on a silk pillowcase and keep my eye mask by my bed, ready for later, no matter if I am home or away. Once in bed I take time to lie back, do some de-compressing and think through my day before surrendering to sleep.
