The Power of Positive Mental Attitude
In a world that often feels like a rollercoaster of challenges and uncertainties, maintaining a positive mindset is like holding a little sunbeam in your pocket. So, if your goal for 2024 is to increase your Positive Mental Attitude (PMA) then read on.
Find joy and be grateful for the everyday
Imagine waking up and instead of immediately focusing on the difficult and mundane tasks of the day ahead, you take a moment to appreciate and give thanks for the simple pleasures. A cup of tea, the sunrise, your favourite song playing softly on the radio - these are the little building blocks of a grateful heart and that gratitude shifts our focus from what's lacking to what's abundant in our lives.
Life isn’t always an adventure or filled with joyful moments to focus on – despite what social media tells us! It is full of everyday moments which although easily overlooked are so very special in building a positive attitude.
A great way to begin building your PMA is to make a conscious effort to appreciate routine moments in your life. A warm shower, a good book, time spent in companiable silence with a loved one - all joyful yet overlooked pleasures. By savouring these seemingly ordinary moments, we can infuse our lives with joy, letting positivity thrive in the quiet corners of our routines.
Flip the negative ‘what ifs” to positive affirmations.
What are affirmations? They are short, powerful, personal statements that help cultivate a positive mindset which in turn allows us to flip negative situations, scenarios and feelings into positive ones.
Instead of dwelling on the negatives, you can use affirmations to help visualize the positives and imagine the best-case scenarios in situations and tasks you find challenging, shifting the focus from fear to hope. Make challenges into opportunities and setbacks stepping stones toward growth.
Record affirmations in your journal or gently repeat them during your daily routines; they are a potent tool for self-empowerment. And they don’t have to be generic statements such as "I am capable. I am resilient. I attract positivity." They should be personal phrases which mean something to you, so that when you consistently repeat them with conviction and deep feeling, they become the mantra to your life, feeding your positivity and boosting your PMA.
Embracing the journey
Even with a healthy amount of gratitude and positive reinforced affirmations, life happens and it can be hard. It is a journey full of experiences, both good and bad and these should be embraced for what they are. When you try to view all experiences through more positive eyes you open yourself up to the beauty of true personal, well rounded growth.
That’s not to say you should deny the negatives we all undoubtedly face on life’s journey but with a PMA you can face them with a deeper resilience and strength.
Remember, life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass, its about embracing positivity and learning to dance in the rain.
