Kim, owner and manager of Pure Source, a natural skincare & beauty store in stunning Christchurch, Barbados. Not only a successful woman but a long term Holistic Silk lover and action woman. Here she shares her typical day with us.
Q: How do you start your day?
A: Early start. Healthy breakfast and freshly juiced kale, celery, carrot and apple.
Q: What gets you going? (exercise/ wellbeing routine)
A: I am a swimmer and since living in Barbados, I only swim in the open water, in other words the sea. The sea air, the cardio as well as the odd glimpse of a turtle is the biggest endorphin trip imaginable. I also love to play tennis early in the morning at 7am. On Barbados it would be crazy to play later. Oh and Yoga!
Q: Where you are most inspired?
A: I travel a lot, so any of the major cities inspire me: London, New York, Milan, Paris. I like to travel through Europe by train, just taking time to look at the landscape, buildings and people brings on ideas.
Q: You are a successful business woman now, but what advice would you give your younger self?
A: Never give up. Failure can sometimes be good. Zone out negative criticism and trust your own instinct.
Q: What cause are you currently championing?
A: We specialise in natural and organic skincare and beauty and so we are advocates of avoiding chemicals in everything, including sunscreen. I would desperately love the Caribbean to take a stand against the harmful and toxin chemicals that are harming our coral and marine life. Also, unnecessary plastic, particularly plastic bags that are too freely dished out in our (Bajan) supermarkets.
Q: How do you relax and switch off?
A: I am a bibliophile, so reading a good book with a glass of delicious red wine. And Netflix.
Q: What’s your guilty pleasure?
A: Red wine and Wasabi Peas………don’t ask!
Q: You have to choose only one beauty product to use for the next 7 days, what would you pick?
A: As the owner of a natural skincare store with brands from all over the world I have a wonderful wide choice. But if a gun was (currently) held to my head it would be the Kjaer Weis Beautiful Oil. It’s luxuriously nourishing yet amazingly firms the skin and gives it a dewy glow. An excellent prep for make-up.
Q: Do you sleep well, what is your bedtime routine?
A: Reading in bed. Then lip balm, chest balm and pulse point aromatherapy. I am training myself to empty my head of repetitive, work related thoughts before I go to sleep. I do not look at emails before I go to bed and I keep my phone in a separate room.
Q: And the final question… your favourite Holistic Silk item and why?
A: This one is easy. The Holistic Silk Lavender filled Eye Mask. Cannot take a flight without it. Cannot deal with jetlag without it. An unsurpassed essential item. The lavender scent lasts for a long time and every now and again I just scrunch the mask to release the aroma. Covers the eyes completely and so comfortably. One of the best sleep inducers around. And looks fabulous.
