"Do Remember They Can't Cancel Spring"
My use and love of blossom, and in fact all things floral, has been a constant in the Holistic Silk design ethos with cherry blossom represented on one of my first designs - the Classic Lavender Eye Mask. After 20 years of Holistic Silk it's still firm favourite.
As one of my hero artists, I was inspired to hear about David Hockney’s lockdown in Normandy this week. Ever since I was at Art school David has been a source of inspiration to me, not only through his body of work, but his ethos to get up and start work immediately each morning – he even painted this, many years ago, on a set of drawers at the end of his bed to motivate himself!
I’ve often brought my mind to him on difficult days, and this week’s post shows me he still advocates this principle today. Attracted to Normandy because it offers a broader range of blossoms than the UK, with many varieties of apple, cherry, pear and plum trees compared to the hawthorn and blackthorn he has painted before, he can be found most days at the moment in his garden drawing the spring awakening.
To see ten of Hockney’s recent collection of work, which he has made available for us all to enjoy at this difficult time, along with his thoughts on the role of art in life just click here.
I hope that you find him and them as inspiring as I do.
Love and light
